Things to do

Castellar de la Muntanya is a good starting point for walks of different character. We’ve got 7 interesting walks mapped out for you. Some of them are also suitable for biking.

Within only a few kilometres from Castellar you’ll find several excellent restaurants where tasteful traditional dishes are served.
For instance in La Vall del Bac is the oldest inn of Catalonia (8 km). In the valley of Castellar are the country house Colldecarrera (6 km) and the old farm Can Planas (3 km). You can take the car there or decide to walk. You won’t be disappointed.

A one-and-a-half hour walk leads you through wild and romantic scenery to the river in the valley of Vall del Bac. There you can enjoy swimming in the crystal clear water.

Horse riding…….

In Batet de la Serra you’ll find the riding school of Willem du Crocq. Horses have been his passion all his life. He’ll take you for exciting rides in the country. A dream for experienced riders, a great discovery for beginners.

Motor tours

We’ve got many suggestions for various tours. E.g. excursions to introduce you to the volcanic area near Olot or the national park of Alta Garrotxa.

Worth to visit are

Olot (8 km from Castellar)
is the centre of the region of La Garrotxa. It’s a friendly town in a beautiful volcanic landscape. An attractive covered market is open every morning, six days a week. On Mondays the city centre merits a visit for its great provincial open-air market. Festivals are organised throughout the year. Actually celebrations and entertainment are a trademark of Spain.

Santa Pau
(6 km from Olot)
A pretty village in the grandiose volcanic setting.

(25 km from Olot)
It’s the former capital of the province of Girona. A medieval town, with pleasant narrow streets, squares and a unique bridge.

(40 km from Olot)
A charming town, well known for its Dali Museum. From there it’s only 20 km to the coast.

Banyoles (35 km from Olot)
It’s got a large sheet of inland water, where the Olympic rowing races took place in 1996. An attractive place for swimming.

(50 km from Olot)
A historic town of a great architectural beauty. It has a cathedral, many churches, an old (restored) town wall, Romanesque baths and gardens and a medieval Jewish quarter.

Pretty villages are also to be found in the near surroundings of Olot or on your way to Camprodon.
