Garrotxa lies in the most northern part of the province of Girona, bordering on France. It has a typical Mediterranean climate with warm summers and dry winters. However, through its open connection to the sea, Castellar de la Muntanya benefits from a lovely mini-climate. This means, compared with nearby Olot, it is a few degrees cooler, so a more gentle temperature in summer and a few degrees warmer in winter.
